All of Me – 3 Easy to Intermediate Arrangements │Jazz Piano Lesson #50

Intermediate
In this lesson, I want to share with you 3 All of Me jazz arrangements (from easy to intermediate) and my thought process behind it, in the hope that it will motivate you to create your own 😉

Sheet Music: Coming Soon!

𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝟏:
RH: Melody – Play around with the rhythm & syncopation. Try to vary your syncopations every time you play through the song.

LH: Two Feel Bass Line
Beat 1: Root (or the 5th – if you have the same chord in the next bar too)
Beat 3: 3rd or 5th (or play the Root again one octave higher or lower)
If you want to learn more about walking bass and variations, check out my “How to Play Jazz Blues – The First 10 Steps” here:

Yardbird Suite

𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝟐:
RH: Syncopated Melody
LH: Two feel Bass Line + Counterpoint

𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 – Whenever the melody rests on a long note, you can _activate_ your left hand to play a short melodic line. If that feels difficult in the beginning, you can also just play a more active walking bass line.

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐬?
My melodies are based on chord notes, and sometimes I spice them up with some chromatic approach notes. Try to create a 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞 effect between the two hands.

𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝟑
RH: Syncopated Melody
LH: Root + Counterpoint (Chord Tone Improvisation)
Experiment with longer lines and more complex syncopation.
Be creative, but not at the expense of a solid and stable groove.

You can approach these arrangements in two ways.

1. You start with the first arrangement to build up a solid foundation. Then you move to arrangement No. 2 (Step 2), where you experiment with some short counterpoints. Once you have good control over that too, you move to arrangement no. 3 (Step 3) and push your limits.

2. The other approach is to look at these arrangements as templates, and you copy and paste together your favorite combinations from each arrangement.
